The fight for arts funding and education

Outside of our offered classes, our team at Art Hour is also actively creating campaigns to further our mission of spreading awareness about arts inequities and securing space for the arts within our schools.

Arts have yet to become widely accessible for students in California, the US, and worldwide.

Despite its proven benefits and necessity to a balanced student life, many school boards and representatives do not look at art as a priority when allocating their funds and energy. That leaves it up to us to take action for the millions of students without an arts education, raise our voices and take up space until space can be made within our school systems for life-changing opportunities through art.

Our past arts advocacy campaigns:

31 Days of Art Action

Throughout California’s Arts Education Month, we celebrated by planning 31 days of art action to take, one a day, in creating change and impacting school district decisions directed towards the students of our local communities.

Our past campaigns:

31 Days of Art Activities

Arts Education month also inspired us to bring it back to celebrating through creation. The Art Hour wants to provide our communities with a different art lesson they can work on every day. Each week of March, we posted a different activity right here on our website as well as on our social media platforms, and we’d love if you participated alongside us!

You can also share this campaign using the hashtag on social media #31DaysofArtActivities, and encourage your friends and family to join you in creating a little extra art!

1.3 million students in the USA have no access to arts education whatsoever. Within elementary schools, 97% do not offer dance courses and 96% do not offer theatre courses.
